The National Aquarium of New Zealand is located on Napier's Marine Parade in sunny Hawke's Bay – a scenic 15-minute walk from Napier's city centre or a brisk 5-minute cycle along the waterfront.

The Aquarium has free off-street parking for cars, charter buses and tour coaches. Accessible car parking is also available right outside.
We have two accessible parking spaces located at the front of the Aquarium building, close to the main entrance.
The Aquarium is wheelchair accessible with a lift to level one in the main foyer (there are only two levels). We also have wheelchairs you can borrow – just ask one of the team at the front desk when you arrive
The Aquarium building allows the entry of Disability Assist Dogs for those requiring essential assistance. However, there are a few exhibits where dogs are prohibited due to the potential stress to the animals in the exhibit, and your dog. In particular, this applies to Penguin Cove. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
If you’d like to bring your dog to assist you while at the Aquarium, we recommend giving us a call prior to your visit on 06 834 1404, as there are some terms and conditions that need to be adhered to. In a nutshell though, dogs are welcome provided they are essential, are managed at all times, and owners can present evidence of their Disability Assist Dog registration upon arrival.
Accessible toilets are located at ground level in the café and retail space, and inside the East Coast LAB education area.
Please note some areas of the Aquarium have reduced light levels related to the needs of the animals, especially in the nocturnal habitat where our Kiwi live.
Whether you would like help dealing with the stimulating aquarium environment or want a few extra activities to help remain engaged, a sensory adventure bag can help.
Each bag includes a variety of items including a fidget toy, an interactive learning guide, a tactile box with real shells, coral or rocks, and more. These are for families, individuals and schools and are $5 per bag and can be pre-booked online.
A delicious range of hot and cold counter food including sandwiches, cakes, muffins and slices. We also have great coffee, homemade cookies, and a range of ice creams and ice blocks. Open 9.00am – 4.30pm
For special gifts and souvenirs, our gift shop stocks a wide range of unique items for all budgets from marine-themed gifts to classic New Zealand souvenirs. Open 9.00am – 4.30pm
Toilets and baby changing facilities are located throughout the Aquarium.
