Curator of Exhibits Rob Yarrall loves his fish. Vets, aquariums and marine experts from around the world call for his advice. If your pet turtles are off their food, Rob is bound to have an answer because he is a legend with his knowledge of reptiles.
It is Rob’s responsibility, as Operations Manager and Curator of Exhibits at the National Aquarium in Napier, to ensure the thousands of live exhibits live in comfort and good health.
When Napier’s first city-owned aquarium opened in December 1976, Rob was appointed assistant curator, and brought with him extensive, hands-on experience.
Rob’s favourites are tropical marine fish from coral seas, Fiji and Great Barrier Island because of their colour and personalities. He admits to having a soft spot for the hand-fed, Giant Gourami, which is an Asian fish that lives in rice paddy fields and breathes air from the surface.
